Easter Egg Roll 2010

So Close...Yet So Far!

We would like to thank our family and friends for wishing us well at the 2010 Easter Egg Roll at the White House in Washington D.C. Most of all we want to thank Congressman Steve Cohen for giving us his congressional family pass so we could witness this great event. Did we meet Malia and Sasha? The answer is NO! There were four groups scheduled at different times. We happen to be in Group C which started at 11:45 a.m. President Obama had to pitch the first ball at their National Baseball Park. We found out that the Obama family was seen in Group A (first group) where the Cast of Glee performed and also Malia and Sasha's mom and dad read to kids in the first group. So we were there at the wrong time to see Malia and Sasha. We had a great time and still believe we will meet them one day. Oh, by the way, we did get a glimpse of First Lady Michelle Obama. She is so pretty! We took lots of pictures and want to share with you who we did see and meet:

When we got to our hotel, a package from Congressman Steve Cohen was waiting for us. The package included an autographed picture of himself with President Obama, our ticket, and a lot of other exciting information.

Here we are waiting in line with our bag of goodies.

Remember Terrence Scott? He is the 9 year old boy who asked President Obama a question in New Orleans. We just happened to be standing behind him and was asked if he could take a picture with us. We were happy to meet Terrance.

You guessed right! Zack and Cody! There was so much to see. For part of the Easter Egg Roll our family split up to take photos. Our grandmother was on one side. The three of us (Kaila, mom, and myself) went in another direction, and our dad was near the stadium where he saw Dylan and Cole and got Cole's autograph for us.

The Egg Roll itself is a race, where children push an egg through the grass with a long-handled spoon. The oldest Easter Egg Roll photo we could find was the year 1929, when Herbert Hoover was the president. Here we are getting ready for the traditional roll!

We almost got a front photo of First Lady Michelle Obama.

Short video of Justin Beiber, another famous person that grandma never heard of.

Hi Kaila and Kailysia, I'm really happy to know that you had a great time at the Easter Roll 2010, but it is a pity that you couldn't meet Malia and Sasha but i'm sure that when they read your book they would ask you go to the white house to meet them and that will be your great moment and it is when your dream about meeting them will come true and it will be better because you'll be alone with them face to face. I really hope so. I have been watching your photos in the white house and all them are cool. I would like to know if malia and sasha have another fans here in Venezuela or it is just me? See you next time my dear little friends and GOD BLESS YOU and all your family

Thank you Tibidel. We hope we can meet them one day. A lot of people in your country probably don't know about Malia and Sasha. Does your president have any kids?

Wow! Sounds like you had a great time! Love all the pictures and your line about Justin Bieber - "another famous person that Grandma has never heard of."
Don't feel bad, Grandma. Neither did I until I saw him on SNL last Saturday night, and I was watching only because I wanted to see Tina Fey do her Sarah Palin impersonation.

I am so BUMMED you didn't get to meet Sasha and Malia! I found your blog recently and was so excited for you two to have the chance to go to Washington--I thought for sure the White House press people would get you at least a minute for a picture with them. Well, it still sounds like you had a great time and how fun for you to get to visit the White House on such a special day! Keep bugging the White House staff and maybe they will get you in the door!

Your friend in California, Margo
